Construction has commenced on a new £76,000 playpark in the Larkfield area of Greenock.
The new facility, located off Cumberland Road in the Smithston area, is being delivered by Inverclyde Council with support from Scottish Government funding. It will feature inclusive play equipment designed to be accessible for children of all abilities.
Work started on Monday, 7 April 2025, and is expected to take around six weeks to complete.
Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council's convener of environment and regeneration, said: "Once complete, the Cumberland Road playpark will be an excellent addition to the many wonderful playparks we have in towns and villages across Inverclyde.
"It will be a welcome addition to the local community and especially for families to encourage.
"There is also the added benefit of bringing a vacant piece of land in the heart of the community back into productive use.
"I look forward to seeing the playpark when the installation is complete."
The playpark is being developed on the site of former local shops, which were demolished several years ago. It is situated behind Aileymill Primary School, and in a tribute to the school’s colours, the playpark surface will be purple.
Additional landscaping work is planned for the area following the completion of the main installation.
