Ayrshire-based McTaggart Construction has underlined its deep-rooted commitment to improving lives and enriching communities, highlighting its ethos as a family firm that extends far beyond traditional building projects.
The company states that this dedication is an integral part of its DNA, stemming from its heritage and values.
McTaggart Construction believes that constructing quality homes provides more than just housing; it creates opportunities to make a positive impact on individuals and the wider community. Their approach is described as holistic, encompassing the broader community and the transformative potential of their work.
A recent example of this commitment saw a team from McTaggart Construction volunteer their time and skills for essential refurbishment work at Hampden Primary School in Glasgow, a school catering for children with severe disabilities. Moved by the dedication of the school's teaching staff at an industry event, the team stepped forward despite having no active building projects in the immediate area.
Without any obligation, volunteer decorators dedicated a full week to the project, while a joiner contributed two days of work. Their efforts included repairing walls and floors, removing partitions, fully painting a room, and fixing wall damages, resulting in the creation of a safer and more welcoming environment for the children to play. This initiative demonstrates the company's broader commitment to supporting the entire Glasgow community, which benefits from the specialist services offered at Hampden Primary School.
Head Teacher Virginia Smith expressed her gratitude: "At Hampden School we are so thrilled with the work completed by McTaggart Construction. The difference that they have made to the space is almost unbelievable – a complete transformation from a dark and dingy space to a light, bright and open space. Their attention to detail went above and beyond and they were so helpful to us during the process. The children are loving the new space. They have so much more space to play in and the lovely bright and fresh décor makes the room a pleasure to be in. We will never forget their generosity and are so grateful to the team who helped us."
McTaggart Construction also emphasises its commitment to supporting marginalised groups and proudly leads the Scottish construction industry as the first homebuilder in Scotland to sign up to The Buy Social Pledge. This initiative, overseen by Scottish Enterprise Scotland, aims to strengthen opportunities for social and supported enterprises within the country's supply chain.
Last year, McTaggart Construction invested over £462,000 in social enterprises and currently has ongoing orders with organisations such as RSBI Kitchens, Community Wood Recycling, and Erskine-based Scotland's Bravest Manufacturing Company, which supports veterans and individuals with disabilities or from disadvantaged backgrounds. This demonstrates the company's tangible commitment to creating positive social impact alongside its core construction activities.
