CCG (Scotland) To Recruit 10 New Trade Apprentices

Construction News Image
CCG (Scotland) has announced plans to recruit up to 10 new trade apprentices in 2025, reinforcing its commitment to developing Scotland's future construction workforce.

Despite ongoing challenges such as an ageing workforce, skills shortages, and economic pressures, CCG continues to prioritise investment in people and skills. The company's award-winning apprenticeship programs offer structured career pathways in various trades, including electrical, joinery, plumbing, bricklaying, floorlaying, and heating engineering.

CCG also collaborates with Developing Young Workforce (DYW), colleges, and local schools to promote construction careers, providing work-based site placements and participating in STEM career events.

To mark the apprenticeship announcement, three of CCG's 48 apprentices were featured at a new-build, low-carbon housing site in Newhaven, Edinburgh. These apprentices, Calvin, Innes, and Elliott, represent CCG's commitment to employing apprentices from within the communities they serve.

David Wylie, Managing Director of CCG, stated: "CCG has long recognised that people are at the heart of our success. As the industry faces critical skills shortages and economic challenges, our focus remains on providing young people with opportunities to build fulfilling careers in construction, and we want to ensure these opportunities are provided at a local level. Our latest apprenticeship intake not only reflects our ongoing investment in the next generation, but it also highlights our commitment to ensuring a diverse and skilled workforce for the future."

Over 25% of CCG's 630 employees are under 28, and the company offers traineeships across various roles, enhanced by academic partnerships. Harsh Shah, an assistant site manager, credits his construction management placement with CCG for providing valuable hands-on experience.

"My construction management placement allowed me to experience the day-to-day site environment first-hand, and I credit it for giving me the tools to take on my role as assistant site manager," said Shah.

CCG's announcement coincides with Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2025 (March 3rd to 7th). Despite supply chain issues and public sector development reductions, CCG remains committed to addressing Scotland's housing needs through innovation, skills investment, and sustainable construction practices.
