The River Park Programme in Fife has been awarded a £2.98 million grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The funding will contribute to the regeneration of the River Leven valley, transforming it into a beautiful and biodiverse public park that connects local communities with their past.

"The £2.98m grant provided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund is key to driving forward the River Park programme," said Pauline Silverman, Director of Strategy at Green Action Trust. "Not only will the River Park forge better access to the river and between communities, it will also create opportunities for improved health, well-being and economic prospects that will benefit the local community for years to come."

The project will focus on uncovering and consolidating a historic mill complex, while also providing opportunities for skills development, training, and employment within the local community.

"This vital role took its toll on the river’s environment but now, thanks to National Lottery players, the River Park project will support environmental recovery and deliver a 4km, nature-rich and accessible park for people and wildlife to enjoy," said Caroline Clark, The National Lottery Heritage Fund Director for Scotland.

The River Park Programme is a partnership between Green Action Trust, SEPA, Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, Fife Council, and Archaeology Scotland.
