Construction News Image
The upgraded Cheviot Court sheltered housing complex in Irvine has been officially re-opened, following a £3.5 million refurbishment project.

The transformation, delivered by Redpath Construction Ltd on behalf of North Ayrshire Council, has seen a complete overhaul of the 22 properties, including external and internal upgrades.

"The units at Cheviot Court look fantastic and we are sure residents will be delighted with their new surroundings," said Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Islands and Communities.

The refurbishment works included:

• New roof and solar PV panels

• New external insulated render and cladding

• New windows and doors

• Additional parking bays

• A new bin store and drying areas

• New kitchens and wet floor shower rooms in each property

• Upgrades to heating, electrical systems, fire alarm, and alert systems

• Upgrades to all communal areas

The project also incorporated dementia-friendly design principles, considering factors such as kitchen finishes, flooring, and fittings to improve visibility for residents.

"The modernisation is part of a wider £40m programme to upgrade eleven sheltered housing complexes across North Ayrshire," added Councillor Hill. "I’m delighted to see the work being completed which benefits both the residents and the wider regeneration of the area."

This project demonstrates the commitment of North Ayrshire Council to providing high-quality, accessible, and comfortable housing for its older residents.
