A new pilot scheme has been launched to support oil and gas workers in transitioning to careers in the renewable energy sector, particularly offshore wind.

Supported by £3.7 million of Scottish Government funding, the Energy Skills Passport will help workers identify suitable roles in the growing offshore wind industry and gain the necessary qualifications.

Led by RenewableUK and Offshore Energies UK, the pilot aims to ensure a just transition for oil and gas workers as Scotland moves towards a net-zero future.


Acting Cabinet Secretary Gillian Martin emphasized the importance of supporting workers in this transition, stating: "It is absolutely vital that we recognise and retain the considerable skills of oil and gas workers and ensure they are supported as part of the Scottish Government's commitment to ensuring a fair and managed transition to net zero."

Katy Heidenreich, Director of Supply Chain & People at Offshore Energies UK, highlighted the value of the oil and gas workforce's skills and experience in the transition to a low-carbon future.

Jane Cooper, Executive Director of Offshore Wind at RenewableUK, emphasized the importance of the Energy Skills Passport in helping oil and gas workers identify suitable roles and acquire the necessary training to succeed in the offshore wind sector.
