Fife Council Resumes Housing Development

Construction News Image
Over 200 new council houses in Fife are back on track after work was halted last year due to the collapse of the construction company, First Endeavour LLP.

Construction at four sites across the region, including Lochgelly Road, Lumphinans, Bellyeoman in Dunfermline, Fair Isle in Kirkcaldy, and New Flockhouse in Lochore, was suspended in March 2024 when the contractor entered receivership.

Fife Council swiftly took ownership of the sites and its building services division assumed responsibility for the Fair Isle project.

Now, the council is in the process of appointing contractors for the remaining three sites, with construction expected to resume shortly.

At a recent meeting of the People and Communities Scrutiny Committee, Convener Gary Holt expressed his satisfaction with the progress made.

"The council's building services are ready to make progress at the Fair Isle site in Kirkcaldy so it's good to know that the other three affected sites will be back up and running soon," Holt said.

The committee also heard that the council has taken steps to mitigate the risk of similar situations in the future. Contractual processes and delivery partnerships have been reviewed and strengthened.

Cllr Holt emphasised the importance of this development, stating, "Providing more affordable housing in Fife is a key priority for the council, so this progress is very welcome news."

A report will be presented to the Cabinet Committee next month for approval of new contracts for each site, paving the way for the delivery of much-needed affordable housing in these communities.
