Shepherd Chartered Surveyors Supports SDS Development Day

Construction News Image
Shepherd Chartered Surveyors attended the recent Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) Development Day at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow. This follows the company's commitment to supporting the growth of boccia in Scotland through financial contributions.

Steve Barnett, Managing Partner at Shepherd, joined National Development coaches Peter McGuire (brother of Paralympic gold medalist Stephen McGuire) and Jenny Nethery at the event.

"It was a pleasure to attend and meet the boccia community," said Mr. Barnett. "It was inspiring to see the athletes' enthusiasm for this inclusive sport, which caters to all abilities. Having tried the game myself, I experienced firsthand the skill and strategic thinking required. I look forward to following the continued development of boccia in Scotland."

SDS, the Scottish governing body for boccia, actively promotes the sport's accessibility across the country, working to establish clear pathways for participation in both urban and rural areas.

Jonathan Kennedy, Boccia Development Officer for SDS, added: "The backing and support from Shepherd Chartered Surveyors is vital to help fund our ongoing commitment to provide opportunities for people of all abilities and to enable us to host development days like this."

Currently Scotland has 36 boccia opportunities which allows over 720 people to enjoy the game of boccia. To make this happen there are over 199 volunteers who support these opportunities. These volunteers are vital in supporting the athletes to thrive and develop.
