SSEN's Innovation Team has secured £550,000 in funding from Ofgem's Strategic Innovation Fund for four innovative projects.
The projects aim to improve network efficiency, accelerate the transition to net zero, and provide better insights into energy demand and supply.
The four projects are:
• FastTrack: Using AI to simulate network impact and improve decision-making.
• RIDES (Rural Industrial DEcarbonisation Support): Supporting the decarbonisation of rural industries.
• I-LAD (Innovating Losses Analysis and Detection): Developing new techniques to reduce electrical losses.
• 3D-AR: Providing a new, holistic view of network capacity and load.
Frank Clifton, Innovation Manager at Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, expressed gratitude for the funding and highlighted the potential impact of these projects on the future of the energy sector.
He continued: "The funding we’ve secured for these four innovation projects will mean these very worthwhile new ideas can keep on developing and maturing. I'm grateful for the support of all our project partners who helped these great ideas get this far.
"These projects are diverse in their focus, but they have a commonality in that they take a good, simple principle, and support that with informed thinking and creativity.
"This will benefit our customers in the longer-term and support our shared journey to net zero."
