The much-anticipated return of the Cairngorm Mountain funicular railway is imminent. Contractor Balfour Beatty is set to complete remediation works on the viaduct within the next week to ten days, weather permitting.

Following the completion of the viaduct repairs, a series of safety checks, trial runs, and staff training will be undertaken. While this means the funicular will not be operational for the official launch of the 2024/25 winter season on December 20th, it is expected to be available to the public shortly thereafter.

The funicular was initially withdrawn from service in August 2023 due to concerns about the tension in the scarf joints that connect the beams along the viaduct. Balfour Beatty, under contract from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, has been working to retension these joints and address other structural issues.

The return of the funicular is a significant milestone for Cairngorm Mountain and the wider region. The railway is a vital component of the resort's infrastructure and is crucial for transporting visitors to the ski area.
