Public Consultation On Duns Park Flood Risk Mitigation

Construction News Image
A public consultation has been launched to gather feedback on initial designs to alleviate flood risk to Duns Park and the surrounding Bluidy Burn area. The proposed solution involves incorporating natural processes and nature-based solutions to reduce flood risk and enhance the park's accessibility and usability throughout the year.

The project, funded by NatureScot and Greenspace Scotland, aims to identify and implement nature-based solutions to address the flooding issues that often render large sections of the park unusable. By creating new wetland and woodland habitats and linking them to existing wetland areas, the project aims to support biodiversity and improve the overall ecological value of the area.

The consultation will explore digital methods of public engagement, using virtual rooms and platforms to gather input from a wider community.

Councillor Jenny Linehan, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Sustainability and Transport, said: "The consultation phase of the Duns project is a key opportunity for the public to offer feedback and share their views on the proposals.

"It is hoped that the project will involve the community and local schools to raise awareness of biodiversity and the park's wildlife, and it is also important that they have input at this stage of the project too.

"I would encourage those wishing to have their say to take part in the consultation and help shape this exciting project."
