The A9 Dualling Programme has taken a significant step forward with the award of a £635,000 ground investigation contract to Soil Engineering Geoservices Ltd.
The contract covers two sections of the programme: Tay Crossing to Ballinluig and Pitlochry to Killiecrankie. This vital investigation will provide key information for tendering, design, and construction of these upcoming projects.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop MSP, commended the contract award, highlighting its support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) like Soil Engineering Geoservices Ltd. She emphasised the project's commitment to sustainability, including utilising renewable fuel sources and local businesses within the supply chain.
"We continue to make steady progress on the A9 Dualling programme," stated Ms. Hyslop. "This announcement is evidence of that. The information gathered will be crucial for the Tay Crossing to Ballinluig and Pitlochry to Killiecrankie projects."
A spokesperson for Transport Scotland elaborated on the project timeline. "We are on track to award the contract for the Tay Crossing to Ballinluig project next summer, marking the fourth project to begin construction. The procurement process for the Pitlochry to Killiecrankie project is also expected to commence next summer, informed by the data from this ground investigation."
The ground investigation work is expected to begin in the next few months and take approximately 18 weeks. Traffic management measures may be implemented on the A9 and local roads to ensure safety during construction. Information on these measures will be communicated through official channels to minimise disruption for road users.
