Construction Begins On New Bridge of Don Recycling Centre

Construction has commenced on a new Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Bridge of Don. The modern facility will replace the existing HWRC, offering increased space, a more efficient layout, and expanded recycling capabilities.

The new HWRC will be equipped to handle a wider range of recyclable materials, aligning with the level of service currently provided at the Hazlehead site. This upgrade is expected to enhance recycling efforts and waste management services in the Bridge of Don area.

Aberdeen City Council co-leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: "The new recycling centre will provide an accessible and convenient facility, helping our residents to reuse and recycle items they no longer need.

"The project will contribute to the ambitious targets set out in our Climate Change Plan and Net Zero Aberdeen, aimed at increasing reuse and protecting our environment."

The new HWRC is being built at Claymore Drive and will replace the existing facility on Scotstown Road. The new location will provide improved accessibility for visitors, as well as improved welfare facilities for staff.

The new site will be bigger than the existing one and will be able to accept and sort more materials for recycling. A new Reuse Shop is also included in the project, which will help expand our reuse facilities and help keep good quality items in use for longer.

Work is scheduled to be completed in spring 2025 ahead of the new facility opening to the public.
