Clark Contracts has completed the installation of the rooflights within the 1889 Hall at The Briggait Clydeside Market Halls.
The work is part of the major refurbishment of the Category A listed building for Wasps Studios.
The milestone has been marked by visits from the Glasgow City Council Senior Management Team, Scottish Greens co-leader and MSP for Glasgow, Patrick Harvie, Scottish Labour MP, Paul Sweeney and SNP MP, Alison Thewliss, who were given a tour of the site.
The project was also visited by master's students and lecturers from the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Construction Technology and BIM course. During this visit, the project’s M&E Consultant, Rybka, delivered a talk on the conservation strategy and the integration of building services within this historic building.
Clark Contracts are currently completing a £4.2 million refurbishment of the 150 year old building to safeguard the roof of the 1899 and 1904 Market Halls, repair ageing floors and walls, and install new toilet facilities, a new entrance, a café, and a reception facing onto Clyde Street.
The halls are being brought back to public use, allowing communities and visitors to take advantage of the full complement of spaces and activities in the building for many years to come.
The project has received funding from Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, Historic Environment Scotland, Glasgow City Heritage Trust, the Architectural Heritage Fund, Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund and Avondale.
