North Lanarkshire Council has announced plans for a £14 million redevelopment of Strathclyde Park, including the Watersports Centre.

The popular visitor attraction will be given a new lease of life as it is converted into a state-of-the-art low carbon health hub over the next three years.

Council Leader Jim Logue and Helen Loughran, Convener of Environment and Climate Change visited the park to inspect the ambitious plans which will greatly enhance facilities on offer for visitors.

Councillor Logue explained: "This redevelopment will boost Strathclyde Park as a place to go destination for our communities, while promoting health and sustainability. It also helps provide another significant step towards our net-zero ambitions.

"When complete, the new Watersports Centre will serve as a vibrant community meeting point and outdoor sporting hub and help build on the natural beauty of the park."

The ambitious project, backed by funding from the council, Public Sector Heat Decarbonisation Fund and UK Shared Prosperity Funding aims to drastically reduce carbon emissions and operating costs by integrating advanced insulation and renewable energy solutions. The redevelopment will also enhance facilities for outdoor education, rowing and water sports, and create a brand-new ground floor café area.
