SSE has joined 26 other energy sector companies at Glasgow Science Centre to mark the second anniversary of the Powering Net Zero Pact (PNZP).

PNZP started in 2022 with eleven founding partners, including SSE, Vestas, NKT, Siemens Gamesa, Siemens Energy, GE Vernova Offshore Wind, Subsea 7, Balfour Beatty, DEME Offshore, RJ McLeod and Hitachi Energy. The pact has now grown by 16 members including key direct network operators – Scottish Power and National Grid.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, SSE CEO, started off the event, sharing the enthusiasm in the room that collaboration is the best way to tackle difficult sustainability challenges.

Alistair also drew upon the changes since COP26 in Glasgow within the sustainability space with a key focus on taking sustainability actions rather than just setting targets.

He was also confident that the power sector remains on track for decarbonisation, additionally, the thermal sector is ready to decarbonise, but the policy environment needs to speed up to meet this demand.

Bruce Clark, Joint Managing Director of RJ McLeod, shared his company's strong support of the PNZP, showcasing their engagement within all the groups and the value the PNZP is creating for their organisation and the relationships it is forging with their clients and manufacturers.

Finally, Anthony Abbotts, VP of Group Sustainability of NKT, recognised the value the PNZP is providing by granularity of detail around key sustainability challenges. Anthony merited the opportunity PNZP provided, to hold open conversations about sustainability challenges that individual companies face, which can be solved together within the forum.
