£4.3m South Aryshire Road Improvement Works

A £4.3 million programme of road improvement works for 2023=26, including resurfacing works and road reconstruction projects.

The funding will also be used for footpaths, bridge maintenance, coastal defences, and the continued rollout of energy efficient LED street lighting.

South Ayrshire's roads infrastructure contributes massively to the local economy and to the development of the region. The road asset carriageway alone is valued at a staggering £1.9 billion!

Councillors were presented with an outline of works due to take place over the next three years. One of the largest projects in 2024 will see Kincaidston Drive in Ayr completely resurfaced at a cost of £562,500.

Work will also take place to adapt to anticipated climate change, with £420,000 invested over the next three years to reduce the risk of flooding at St Ninian's park in Prestwick.

Councillor Bob Pollock, Economic Development Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "Despite budget pressures, we continue to invest in our roads network. Our transport infrastructure is crucial to economic growth with our roads are one of our most valuable assets.

"We continue to balance the investment in our roads with a growing number of active travel projects, recognising the physical and mental health benefits of walking, cycling and wheeling."
