Ten Dundee City Projects Secure Climate Fund 2.0 Support

Construction News Image
Dundee City Council has announced that ten city projects are to be funded from the Dundee Climate Fund 2.0, totalling £365,000.

After two months and 4758 votes cast, the people of Dundee have decided how to spend the second round of the fund designed to help grow local community projects acting on climate change, reducing carbon emissions and engaging communities.

Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener Cllr Heather Anderson said: "I'm very glad to see these ten forward-thinking projects who serve our city tremendously well in a variety of ways have exceeded the threshold of 150 votes and will receive funding to carry out further sustainability-minded work.

"There is no better way of making positive sustainable changes within our city than on a ground-level by supporting Dundee-based projects directly on their original, community-driven solutions to minimise carbon emissions while delivering their goals for the greater good.

"With votes up on last time around, it's great to see residents have engaged and done their bit by giving their backing to the projects they want to see continue to flourish in our city."

Community generated ideas were collected for Dundee Climate Fund 2.0 through the use of extensive stakeholder engagement, including an Idea Generation Speed Dating Workshop and public consultation within Community Centres. These themes are:

• energy – reducing consumption, promoting energy efficiency, use of renewables;

• transport – encouraging active travel, decarbonising transport;

• waste – reducing waste, recycling, reusing resources;

• resilience – improving greenspaces, biodiversity, local food growing; and

• raising awareness (building capacity) – increasing awareness, engaging communities and young people in climate change.

Applications were made by small projects (between £6,000 and £25,000) and larger projects (up to a maximum of £100,000) from Dundee-based not-for-profit, constituted groups.

The full list of successful projects and their funding allocation is as follows:
