BEAR Scotland has been appointed by Transport Scotland to upgrade the busy A87 tourist route on Skye ahead of the summer season.
The works will be carried out between the Drumuie junction and the Borve junction, north of Portree. The road will be resurfaced and road markings will be replaced, improving safety for road users.
These works will take place from Monday 22 to Tuesday 30 April, between 7pm and 7am, Monday to Friday.
In order to facilitate the works and due to the narrow road widths, there will be nightly road closures in both directions to ensure the safety of road workers and the public. Vehicles can pass through the site at amnesties of 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12pm, 2am and 4am.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: "The A87 is an important route for locals as well as visitors to Skye. At Borve, the road surface is old and due to be replaced. Making the surface smoother will help with drainage and give road users a more even and safer journey. As well as that, upgrading the existing road markings will increase visibility, improving safety. We’re doing this work at night, and before the main tourist season, to minimise disruption."
