Aberdeen City Council Wins Prestigious RTPI Award

Aberdeen City Council's long-term plan for tackling climate change has been recognised as "the best in the UK".

The Net Zero Aberdeen Routemap won 'Excellence in Plan Making Practice' at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence (UK).

The routemap sets out a strategy for reducing emissions of harmful greenhouse gases, including using clean energy sources such as hydrogen. Judges highlighted the way the council had collaborated with partner organisations to develop the plan.

Convener of the Net Zero, Environment and Transport Committee Councillor Ian Yuill said: "This national award recognises the considerable efforts taking place in Aberdeen to play our part in combating climate change.

"Net Zero Aberdeen is a joint effort across the city. Every individual, business and organisation can play their part."

The award follows success in June this year when the routemap won the same category at the Scottish awards ceremony.

Vice-Convener Councillor Miranda Radley said: "To repeat this success at UK level is a great achievement. This award highlights our ambitions to work in partnership, as a city, to improve and enhance the environment."

The RTPI award programmes showcase outstanding achievements in planning. The awards celebrate the contribution made by the planning profession to communities, and to raise awareness and understanding of the work of the industry.
