Two Morrison Construction's Building Central projects have won accolades at the Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) Awards for the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and HMP & Young Offender Institution (YOI) Stirling.
The GIA is the largest Chapter in the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) and recognise the work of local architects to foster a knowledge-sharing culture and celebrate quality architectural work.
Designed by HLM Architects, NMIS, an operationally carbon neutral scheme built on behalf of the University of Strathclyde with sustainability at its core, won in the Office/Commercial/Industrial/Retail category, following on from its recent wins at this year's Herald Property Awards and 'Offsite Project of the Year' at the 2023 Building Awards.
HMP & YOI Stirling, which replaces the previous HMP Cornton Vale prison, scooped the Healthcare award. Designed by Holmes Miller, the facility incorporates seven predominantly single-storey buildings including a front of house, central hub, retreat, animal care and three 'House' buildings, all designed around a well-considered landscaped environment, taking advantage of key views to the wider historic environment of the area.
In addition, Paisley Town Hall received a commendation in the Leisure Arts category and Holy Family Primary school in the Education category.
David Ewing, Managing Director for Morrison Construction Building Central, said: "We are delighted that our projects have been recognised in this way by the GIA Awards. The awards emphasise our commitment to innovative design and excellence across all our schemes and the benefit to the communities and environment we work in.
"Our congratulations go to all of our stakeholders and our team members who contributed to the success of these projects."
