CCG's North Gate development in Glasgow has won a prestigious Saltire Award.
The Saltire Society Housing Design Awards 'celebrate the diversity of the best of new housing in Scotland, recognising the contribution it makes to social and cultural conversations' and 'work to encourage good, affordable, adaptable and environmentally sustainable housing in Scotland'.
Supported by the Scottish Government, the awards, which took place on the 13th of November 2023, are amongst the most prestigious for architecture and housing in the country with North Gate beating stiff competition in the Multiple Public Dwelling category to scoop the 2023 prize.
North Gate is a 31-home development located in the south side of Glasgow which was completed in 2022 by CCG on behalf of New Gorbals Housing Association. Designed by Page Park, the stunning development has been designed as a 'gateway' to the Gorbals with a mix of one and two-bedroom flats for social rent contained within an elegantly designed, eight-storey building conceived with a series of towers to give the appearance of a crown, a subtle feature to signify the completion of 30 years of regeneration on Crown Street.
The judges praised the development:
"…North Gate is a dramatic addition to the urban landscape, massing itself to create a profile suitably unique on the Glasgow skyline. It is detailed with precision throughout, with decorative elements subtly incorporated duly offsetting what could have been an uncomfortably austere consequence of the relatively limited material palette.
"Incorporating communal facilities for the benefit of all, North Gate makes its presence proudly felt, both inside and out."
The Saltire Award is the third granted to the development since its completion and the second won in 2023 after receiving the GOLD award for Affordable Housing by the Scottish Design Awards earlier this year.
There may still be more awards to come this year; the AJ Journal Awards, one of the most prestigious architectural awards in the UK, take place this November.
CCG extend our congratulations to all of the project partners for receiving such high recognition.
