£225,000 Fund For Perth And Kinross Environmental Projects

Perth and Kinross Council has announced that applications are now open for a £225,000 fund, which is designed to support projects that tackle the climate crises.

The Green Living Fund is inviting bids for projects across the following themes:

• Energy - reducing consumption, promoting energy efficiency and use of renewables

• Transport - encouraging active travel, use of public transport and decarbonising transport

• Waste and circular economy - reducing waste, reuse and recycle, including foodshare projects

• Resilience - improving greenspace, biodiversity, local food growing and adapting to climate change, flood mitigation and other community resilience projects set up to respond to climate events

• Engagement - increasing public awareness and engaging communities

A total of £226,505.65 is available with the total funding pot split between seven different areas of Perth and Kinross.

Councillor Tom McEwan, convenor of Perth and Kinross Council's Housing and Social Wellbeing Committee, said: "The Green Living Fund will empower communities to launch projects that will make a real difference to the lives of their residents and I am excited to see the proposals people come up with.

"Whether it's reclaiming land to grow fruit and vegetables, or perhaps setting up a repair and reuse café kitted out with equipment to help people restore clothes, furniture electrical goods and other items, which reduces carbon emissions by cutting the need to buy new products.

"As a Council, we want to work with communities to improve the lives of our residents and the Green Living Fund is a great example of how we can collaborate on important projects."

Councillor Richard Watters, convenor of Perth and Kinross's Climate Change and Sustainability Committee said: "Community projects can make a huge difference to people's lives, helping them cope with the Cost of Living crisis and helping them restore nature and cut emissions too.

"I would urge everyone to consider what they can do for their community and submit their bids before the deadline."

Proposals can be submitted online before the closing date of December 15. Members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite schemes, with the winning bids will be announced in January.
