Lanarkshire Electricity Network Upgrade And Reinforcement Works

SP Energy Networks has announced a programme of upgrade and reinforcement works for Lanarkshire's electricity network, focused around the Garrion bridge area.

The essential works are expected to take around two weeks from Monday 30 October and will strengthen the network infrastructure serving the Lanark Road area.

The focus of the project will be around Garrion Bridge where a new substation will be installed, removing parts of the overhead line network and providing a substantial boost to power capacity in the area.

To ensure the works can be carried out safely and as quickly as possible, temporary traffic management arrangements will be in place on the A71, A72, Lanark Road and Horsley Brae where manned traffic lights will be in operation between 7am and 7pm each day.

Residents, businesses and commuters in the area have been warned of potential travel delays, with signage already in place, and the advice is to take an alternative route where possible.

Craig Cottrill, SP Energy Networks' District General Manager for Lanarkshire said: "As we move towards a cleaner and greener net zero future, we need to ensure the reliability and resilience of the local power grid for people and communities. These essential works will do exactly that by significantly reinforcing the local electricity supply and addressing growing demand in the area.

"We fully appreciate the potential impact of the works on the travelling public and while we've worked closely with local authorities to plan and programme the works in a way that will minimise disruptions, it will mean longer journey times. So, please plan ahead and take an alternative route if you can.

"Our thanks to local people in advance for their patience and cooperation. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and will do everything we can to complete these essential works to enhance the local electricity network as soon as we can."
