Glasgow Seeks Views On Neighbourhood Development Proposals

Glasgow City Council is seeking views on early-stage proposals to create people-friendly streets across four city neighbourhoods that are less dominated by traffic.

Funded by a Places for Everyone grant from Sustrans Scotland, the proposals are part of wider plans to create Liveable Neighbourhoods across the city, where daily needs can be met locally, active travel is more appealing and car dependency reduced.

Earlier this year, residents in neighbourhoods across the four study areas made suggestions for improvements in their communities. Now a shortlist of potential projects for each area are being progressed for further design development and potentially construction, subject to future funding opportunities arising.

City Convener for Climate and Transport Cllr Angus Millar said: "Rebalancing our streets so they are more people-friendly offers increased opportunities for residents to access services, facilities, and amenities within a short walk, wheel, cycle, or public transport journey from home.

"Shortlisted projects, as part of our latest Liveable Neighbourhoods plans that we are seeking feedback on, include reducing the volume of through-traffic in Mansewood and Hillpark, improving pedestrian and cycling links to Crown Street Retail Park in the Gorbals, improving connectivity through Germiston and the wider area, and reducing the domination of vehicle traffic in Scotstoun to create a safer and more pleasant environment for residents.

"As part of our citywide Liveable Neighbourhoods programme, we are looking at Glasgow, street by street, community by community, and finding ways to connect and improve our local neighbourhoods. I hope everybody with an interest in the latest areas to benefit will engage with this process and help determine local priorities."

Details of the shortlisted projects for each Liveable Neighbourhood and how to share your feedback (including workshops, drop-in/pop-up events and an online survey) are shown below.

The surveys for the Mansewood to Shawlands, and Pollokshields East to Gorbals Liveable Neighbourhoods will open shortly and links will be added to this page in due course.
