Second Phase Of Dundee Climate Fund Announced

Dundee City Council has announced the second phase of its Climate Fund, set for a more collaborative, innovative and impactful second half.

Dundee Climate Fund 2.0 is looking for help from people to brainstorm ideas and shape the fund which will ultimately share £365,000 among community groups and projects.

The initial round of Dundee Climate Fund earlier this year delivered Scotland's first council-led green participatory budgeting initiative attracting almost 30 applications and more than 4300 votes.

A unique two-part event to be held in Kirkton Community Centre next week will generate ideas in a "speed-dating" format followed by a discussion with experts on the ideas that have been created, before these are short-listed to go forward to a public vote.

The quick-fire ideas generator will focus on the Dundee Climate Fund themes of:

• energy - reducing consumption, promoting energy efficiency, use of renewables;

• transport - encouraging active travel, decarbonising transport;

• waste - reducing waste, recycling, reusing resources;

• resilience - improving greenspaces, biodiversity, local food growing; and

• raising awareness (building capacity) - increasing awareness, engaging communities and young people in climate change.

Community groups already involved or keen to take part in Dundee's climate action are being asked to take part on Monday (May 22) from 11am to 3pm.

All shortlisted ideas will be presented to the public for consultation to determine the specific themes, focus and projects for Dundee Climate Fund 2.0 during Art Night 2023 at the Forum Centre on June 24.

Dundee declared a climate emergency in June 2019 to recognise the serious environmental, social and economic challenges faced by climate change, and launched the Dundee Climate Action Plan with the backing of local companies and organisations.

A total of 12 local projects are currently benefitting from a share of around £385,000 from the first round of the Dundee Climate Fund.
