Sumitomo Electric Industries has announced plans to build a strategically important high voltage cable manufacturing plant in the Scottish Highlands.
The Japanese multinational will invest more than £200m into the Scottish development and create some 150 new highly-skilled green jobs.
The investment in Scotland is just one of a number of commitments by a range of Japanese firms to invest almost £18 billion in businesses and projects across the UK.
Japan is already the UK's 5th largest investor with £92 billion invested, and trade in goods and services was worth £27.7 billion last year – a number expected to grow when the UK joins the regional CPTPP trade bloc.
The new Scottish manufacturing plant, expected to be based in Nigg, will help the UK build resilient supply chains for critical infrastructure such as offshore wind projects and support UK developers to enhance their contribution to UK growth.
