SSE's Solar & Battery team has been amalgamated into SSE Renewables to progress the delivery of 2GW pipeline projects cross the UK and Ireland, alongside European expansion plans.
Becoming part of SSE Renewables, which is already growing its presence internationally to deliver the green energy the world needs, will maximise opportunities for the Solar and Battery division to grow in scale.
Finlay McCutcheon, Director Of Onshore Renewables (EUROPE) SSE Renewables, said: "We're delighted to welcome SSE's Solar and Battery team into SSE Renewables where they will be a natural fit. The people, plans and pipeline Solar and Battery already have in place is impressive and we can collectively scale up our combined ambitions to grow our market share in both technologies. I'm extremely excited by the opportunity to both support the team's delivery at scale and to leverage the critical expertise our SSE colleagues have built up in solar and batteries across our wider Development teams and pipelines.
"Both solar and battery technology complement our offerings in onshore wind and hydro and bring us greater portfolio diversity. Solar is now a cost-effective low carbon technology with huge potential in its markets both domestically and internationally; and battery storage is a key part of the net zero jigsaw, thanks to its ability to store and discharge energy when most needed by the Grid"
Richard Cave-Bigley, Director of Solar And Battery, SSE Renewables, added: "I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped this business get to this point. SSE Renewables is now the natural home for our people and pipeline, and it means even greater growth opportunities lie ahead.
"Now, as part of SSE Renewables, we will have a combined team with shared ambitions, all of whom are committed to working together to grow our near 2GW solar and battery pipeline as we expand beyond the UK and Ireland and into Europe."
