SSEN Transmission Engineer Wins Prestigious Green Energy Award

SSEN Transmission engineer Colin Thompson has won the Engineering Award at this year's Scottish Renewables Young Professional Green Energy Awards.

The awards, held in Glasgow on 27 April, are a chance to celebrate the brightest in the industry and recognise those who will be driving the evolution of Scotland's energy system.

Colin took home the Engineer Award, a significant achievement and recognition for the hard work and innovative approach to the design of overhead lines in the north of Scotland.

Colin joined SSEN Transmission as an Assistant Engineer and was quickly promoted to Project Engineer. He was appointed as Lead Engineer on a project to design 180km of new 400kV overhead lines in the North of Scotland to support the rapid growth of onshore and offshore renewables.

Championing the use of innovative route analysis software, Colin delivered a sustainable route option in four months rather than the 12 months it would have traditionally taken. He has since rolled out this approach for use on other projects and trained colleagues in using the software.

SSEN Transmission's Benjamin Brint, Hannah Tallis and Colin Thompson were all finalists at this year's awards

SSEN Transmission's Hannah Talis was also nominated for the Culture of Change Award, along with Benjamin Brint who was a finalist for the Innovation Award - a fantastic achievement for them both and one the whole business is proud of.

Congratulations to all winners and finalists at this year's Young Professional Green Energy Awards.
