Morrison Construction North East has held a tree planting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Countesswells Primary School in Aberdeen.

The project, which was completed a month ahead of schedule, was delivered on behalf of Aberdeen City Council and hub North Scotland, and aims to provide a local primary school for the new Countesswells community, following a large influx of new homes being built in the area over the next few years.

Aberdeen City Council's Education and Children's Services Convenor, Martin Greig was present at the ceremony, along with a number of pupils who recently moved into the school, and members of staff who were excited to welcome the first cohorts of children to the new primary school.

The new, two-stream primary school will accommodate 434 pupils and will also provide an early learning and childcare centre for 60 further pupils. In addition to this, a 3G seven-a-side football pitch and outdoor play area have been built for the pupils of the school, as well as outdoor learning areas.

Keith Machray, Pre-Construction Director for Morrison Construction Building North East, commented: "It is very satisfying to see all the hard work of our team and our local subcontractors being so well received.

"We are extremely proud of the high-quality learning environment that we've played our part in delivering and seeing the smiles and excitement among all the pupils (and teachers!) today makes all our efforts worthwhile."

Councillor Greig added: "The pupils will benefit from this wonderful setting which will really enhance their learning experience."

Ewen Fowlie, Operations Director for hub North Scotland, said: "Countesswells has been a brilliant school project and the result is a fantastic building which has been completed early and defect free. It will be a popular landmark for generations to come as this community continues to grow."
