BEAR Scotland has announced a programme of road safety improvements works on the A9 at the Drumochter dual carriageway from Monday 5 December.
On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be upgrading existing, and installing new, safety barriers in the central reservation. These improvements will help protect motorists from roadside hazards.
The improvement works are scheduled to begin on Monday 5 December for eight weeks, with no works over the two-week festive period between Friday 23 December and Wednesday 4 January. All works will be complete by Friday 27 January, subject to weather.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, single fast lane closures will be in place 24-hours a day while the works are taking place, on the A9 northbound and southbound carriageways. The speed limit through the works will also be reduced to 50mph for the duration of the project. The single fast lane closures will be removed over the holiday period but the 50mph speed limit will still be in place while the works are halted, for the safety of motorists.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: "These works are part an ongoing commitment to improve road safety on the A9 and the improvements will help to ensure that roadsides in the area are as safe as possible.
"The traffic management is essential to keep roadworkers and road users safe during this project as our teams will be working in the central reservation area, however we will do all we can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.
"We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination."
