Orkney Islands Announces Programme Of Road Repairs

Orkney Islands Council (OIC) has announced that a programme of flag stone repairs in central Kirkwall and Stromness will get underway on Tuesday 20 September.

OIC's Roads team is planning on carrying out flag stone repairs in Bridge Street and Albert Street in Kirkwall, between Tuesday (20 September) and Friday (23 September).

The work will be carried out under road closure conditions. However, wherever possible and safe to do so, works will be barricaded off while repairs cure, to enable roads to reopen as soon as possible.

All going to plan, crews will then move through to Stromness on Monday 26 September, also for flag stone repairs, with work there expected to continue until Friday 07 October. The works in Stromness will take place in two phases:

• Phase 1 will be on Victoria Street between No 20 Victoria Street and the junction of Church Road and Victoria Street. This phase is planned to run from Monday 26 September to Friday 30 September - again all work will be carried out under road closure conditions.

• Phase 2 of the Stromness works will see Alfred Street, South End and Ness Road closed to all vehicular traffic, between Monday 03 October and Friday 07 October.

Again, where possible the aim will be to barricade off repairs so as to reopen affected sections of road as soon as possible, where it is safe to do so.
