Maxi Construction Awarded £2.7m Edinburgh School Contract

The City of Edinburgh Council has awarded Maxi Construction a £2.7m contract for the design and construction of a new 2-storey classroom block within the grounds of the Grade B listed Sciennes Primary School.

The new building is to be certified to Passivhaus Standard and includes cross laminated timber (CLT) construction, quadruple glazing, heavily insulated external walls and roof, a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system (MVHR) and air source heat pumps.

John Aitchison, Maxi Construction's Managing Director, said: "We are delighted to be awarded this contract which adds to our extensive education sector experience and further develops our experience in the provision of low carbon buildings."

Cllr Ian Perry, Education Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: "The new classroom block will be the first primary school building in the Capital to be certified to Passivhaus Standard and supports our aim of net zero emissions by 2030."

The project team includes Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor Doig & Smith, Architect Holmes Miller, Structural Engineer Will Rudd Davidson and Passivhaus Certifier John Gilbert Architects.

The contract was procured via the Crown Commercial Service Construction Works and Associated Services Framework.
