Councillors Visit A.C. Whyte Site In Edinburgh

A.C. Whyte has welcomed Councillors Gordon MacDonald and Neil Gardiner to their Edinburgh City Council site in Murrayburn, Edinburgh where they are undertaking a programme of regeneration works to various blocks of 4-storey flats.

The works form part of The City of Edinburgh Council's key strategy to deliver and build on the strong foundations of the emerging, community-led Wester Hailes Local Place Plan.

The City of Edinburgh Council are heavily investing in the regeneration of their communities, with a view to improving the energy efficiency and comfort of their residents' homes. A.C. Whyte were successfully appointed to their 4-year Capital Works Framework and are currently working across three key areas within Wester Hails and Silverknowes, Edinburgh, where they are delivering major refurbishment works including external wall insulation, roofing works as well as internal upgrading works such as ventilation upgrades, window and door replacements.

Jennifer Phin, Managing Director of A.C. Whyte explained: "With long term budget commitments from the Scottish Government, Council's like The City of Edinburgh Council can design multiyear programmes, allowing contractors to build in community wealth initiatives, which will go on to help support their vision to create the 20-minute neighbourhood. Edinburgh City Council residents will benefit as A.C. Whyte and others, have and will continue to create opportunities within our tailored community benefits plan where residents will train, work and live within their communities, supporting a just transition to net zero."

Councillor Gordon MacDonald, MSP for Edinburgh Pentlands said: "The works carried out to the area have been transformational, the blocks in the Wester Hailes area were run down and in need of regeneration. The quality of work that has been carried out by A.C. Whyte is fantastic, you can see that the external wall insulation will make a difference to the resident homes and overall it will help uplift the entire area. It's an excellent job, the colour scheme helps to brighten up the community and feedback from my constituents is that it's been a great job."

Councillor Neil Gardiner who sits on the Development Management, Planning, Policy and Sustainability Committees also attended the visit and added: "It's great to see the works happen after the planning and preparation works, this long-term project is going to make a positive difference to the resident's lives by creating warmer homes and it will make the whole area look smart overall. A.C. Whyte are creating local jobs for local people and it was great to learn about the A.C. Whyte Skills Academy, it's all very good news for the Wester Hailes area, the progress so far has been great and look forward to seeing the end result."
