A82 Road Surface Improvement Works Get Underway

BEAR Scotland has announced that road surface improvement works are set to get underway on the A82 today, Tuesday 11 January.

The project will address defects over a 250 metre section of the A82 between Fort William and Spean Bridge, in proximity to the Great Glen Cattle Ranch, creating a smoother and safer journey for road users.

The improvements are scheduled to start on Tuesday 11 January and are expected to take four days to complete. The works will take place between 7am and 7pm each day with surfacing due to be completed by 7pm on Friday 14 January, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, the works will be undertaken under a 10mph convoy system. The convoy will be lifted out with working hours to keep disruption to a minimum however a speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be travelling on a temporary surface.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative said: "This surfacing project over a short section of the A82 will help address defects and greatly improve the road surface for motorists.

"The traffic management planned, involving a convoy system is essential to the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists.

"Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information."
