BEAR Scotland are set to begin a £610,000 programme of road surface improvement works on the A90 northbound, south of Forfar.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the northbound section of the A90 between North Mains of Invereighty and Newlands Junction, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is scheduled to start on Sunday 16 January with the setting up of traffic management, with the main surfacing work taking place over five days, with operations programmed where possible to take place consecutively. All improvements are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 22 January, subject to weather conditions. To allow this project to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restrictions will be required on the network as follows:

• Sunday 16 January 25 – Overnight lane closures will be in place for safety on both the northbound and southbound carriageways to allow for traffic management to be installed ahead of the project.

• Monday 17 January to Saturday 22 January – To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, from 6.30am on Monday 17 January, there will be a road closure on the A90 northbound from just after Gateside Junction to just after Lochlands Junction with all traffic running in contraflow on the A90 southbound. The A90 northbound Douglastown on and off-slips will be closed during this time. Off-slip traffic will be diverted via A94 Forfar Junction and on-slip traffic will be diverted via Gateside Junction. The Lochlands Junction from A90 northbound approach will be closed with traffic diverted via A94 Forfar Junction and back down the A90 southbound. The Lochlands Junction to A90 northbound will also be closed with traffic diverted via Gateside Junction.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

"The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we've planned the improvements to be carried out using 24-hour working, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination."

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
