New £60,000 Road Safety And Active Travel Project For A82

Construction News Image
A new £60,000 road safety and active travel project is to be progressed on the A82 at Alltsigh with BEAR Scotland due to start works next week.

The project will involve the installation of approximately 80 metres of new footway adjacent to the northbound carriageway of the A82, between the forest access at the Great Glen Way to a point opposite the Lochside Hostel, greatly improving pedestrian access and safety. The new footway will also connect the northbound and southbound bus stops in Alltsigh providing safer access to public transport. In addition, works will also be undertaken to upgrade the drainage system, and new safety barriers and road signs will be installed in the area.

The project is set to begin on Monday 04 October and is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the project. Temporary pedestrian routing will also be implemented to maintain safe access through the site.

BEAR Scotland has engaged with all relevant stakeholders to inform them of the project and share information about the traffic management arrangements that will be in place to facilitate its construction.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative, said: "Trunk Road safety is paramount at BEAR Scotland and this investment from Transport Scotland will improve pedestrian visibility and connectivity in this location for active travel and public transport users.

"The traffic management required to undertake these works is essential to keep everyone safe, so we encourage all road users to follow any signs or temporary arrangements that are put in place.

"Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible. We would like to thank road users in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination."
