Resurfacing Works Announced For A702 Big Red Barn

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland's operating company, have announced road resurfacing works for the A702 South of Big Red Barn are set to get underway in October.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland's South East Network Manager, said: "These surfacing improvements on the A702 South of Big Red Barn will address and repair defects in the road surface, such as potholes or cracks, which will create safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

"It is essential for the safety of road workers and motorists that we close the carriageway during these works, however we've scheduled them overnight in order to minimise any disruption.

"We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

All personnel on site will be subject to strict physical distancing protocols in line with Scottish Government guidance. Thorough risk assessments have been developed and cleansing stations will be implemented on site.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.

For the safety of workers and road users, the A702 will be closed between Biggar and Melbourne Crossroads.

During this closure, a signed diversion route will be in place for traffic via Biggar onto the A72 and the A721 before re-joining the A702 at Melbourne Crossroads. The noted diversion routes will add an estimated seven minutes and 4.1 miles to affected journeys.

A consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements, which will be removed during the daytime, and to minimise any inconvenience.
