Shetland Islands Council have announced upgrade works to improve efficiency, heat output and operational lifetime of its Energy Recovery Plant at Gremista, Lerwick.
The upgrades are expected to take around 10 weeks to install and commission, and the Plant will be shut down during that period. There will be no disruption to the Lerwick District Heating scheme, which will continue to operate as normal.
The work is scheduled to begin on 30 July and last until mid October 2021. Deliveries of waste by regular customers should be made to the Gremista Waste Management Facility. For waste going to the processing shed the hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 – 16:00 and Saturday 08:00 – 11:00.
