Emtec Group Completes Work On Kilmarnock HALO

Emtec Group has completed works on the HALO Enterprise and Innovation Centre (HEIC) in Kilmarnock – the first phase of a £63m regeneration of the former 23-acre home of Johnnie Walker, the world's leading Scotch whisky.

The HEIC is a 4 storey, low carbon, mixed-use building which provides over 40,000 sq ft of office space, as well as a public cafe/events area, and achieves a BREEAM Excellent rating. The state-of-the-art facility is set to open its doors in autumn 2021. With a vision for a dynamic commercial, educational, cultural, leisure and lifestyle quarter where people can 'Live, Work, Learn and Play', the HALO will provide a sustainable community approach to a mixed-use development powered by electricity with a low carbon footprint. The HALO's 210 low carbon emission smart homes will be built in the second phase of the development.

Working with our client, Morrison Construction, Emtec Building Services provided the full MEP services and life safety systems to a BIM Level 2 standard on the project under a Design and Build contract. The project also incorporated the implementation of integrated service rafts, which were prefabricated at Emtec's own Off-Site Manufacturing Facility along with other elements such as plant room skids.

Emtec Energy provided the design, supply, installation & commissioning of various technologies including: a roof mounted Solar PV array, a ground mounted Solar PV Car Port system, battery storage and electric vehicle charging and Electric Bike Chargers. The 'HALO' effect was achieved at rooftop level with the installation of a perforated screen housing the external plant illuminated by specialist LED energy efficient lighting.
