Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has begun construction work on a new housing development at West Craigs, Maybury Road on the outskirts of west Edinburgh.

West Craigs will offer a choice of two-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom bungalows, two and three bedroom terraced and semi-detached homes, as well as three, four and five bedroom detached homes and four bedroom townhouses. The range of affordable properties will comprise a mix of two-bedroom apartments, as well as two and three bedroom terraced and semi-detached homes.

In total the development will deliver 250 new homes, 25% of which will be affordable properties.

This flagship development in the west of Edinburgh represents a significant investment in the local area by Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, and it includes contributions of almost £5million towards education and transport.

West Craigs will also benefit from an extensive landscape framework including the creation of a linear path through the development to link it to the city, as well as landscaping specifically designed to blend in with the local landscape while retaining the existing farmhouse.

Pauline Mills, Land and Planning Director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland said: "Following a significant programme of pre-construction work, we are very happy to have started building our range of new homes at West Craigs as planned this week and on target. This progress signals a further and significant step in the delivery of our first development on the western side of the city for some time.

"West Craigs will provide buyers with a wide selection of homes, as well as great commutable routes to Edinburgh and the wider area. In the next few months, we expect to launch our first phase of new homes for sale at West Craigs, which is exciting news for local buyers looking to be part of the transformation of west Edinburgh.

"This development will be a great addition to the local area, and it also complements our other developments across Edinburgh including, Hawthorn Gardens in South Queensferry, Kinloch Green in Gilmerton and Bankfield Brae at Greendykes South.

"As well as delivering much needed new homes in west Edinburgh, our development will provide a range of economic benefits for the local area which includes supporting over 160 jobs per year of construction, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses."
