Work to install new solar lighting at Drumpellier Country Park and Duchess of Hamilton Park in Motherwell has been completed.

The stud 'guiding' lights follow the edges of the paths, allowing walkers and cyclists to use the parks for an extra couple of hours after sunset.

The lighting is part of North Lanarkshire Council's Active Outdoors campaign to encourage residents to use the area's parks and greenspaces during the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

"With more people using our parks and greenspaces during the pandemic, the new lighting will give visitors a couple of extra hours outside after the daylight goes to enjoy a walk or cycle," said Nicole Paterson, Head of Environmental Assets.

"We also plan to install new signs at Drumpellier and Duchess of Hamilton parks to highlight the distance around the paths and some of the features there.

"Across North Lanarkshire we have wonderful parks, cycle paths, greenspaces and play areas to enjoy the fresh air and get our daily exercise, especially just now when we must follow the restrictions and stay local."
