The Scottish Government has announced new fire safety guidance for high-rise properties.

Posters encouraging residents of high-rise properties to keep common areas clear of anything that could be a fire risk are being issued to building managers across the country.

The posters set out good practice and highlight the real impacts which fires in common areas can have. There is also a specific section for building owners and managers to include contact details for residents to report any fire risk issues.

Community Safety Minister Ash Denham said: "The tragic events at Grenfell Tower emphasised how important building and fire safety is. Although we already have stringent regulations in place, we are determined to do everything we can to strengthen the safety of those living in high-rise buildings.

"Keeping common areas clear can help reduce the risk of the spread of fire, while also ensuring that if there is a fire that escape is not impeded and firefighters can get fast access. We want everyone to promote the 'Keep it Clear' message to improve fire safety.

"We must all play our part in keeping others safe, including preventing and reducing the impact of fires. I hope these new posters can help further reduce the risks in order to keep our communities safe."
