Minister Marks Scottish Apprentice Week With CCG

To mark the launch of Scottish Apprentice Week, Gil Paterson, minister for Clydebank and Milngavie, has met with CCG to explore their approach to construction and affordable housebuilding as well as skills development and training.

The Minister was hosted at the CCG 'offsite manufacturing' (OSM) facility in Cambuslang followed by a tour of a live site, namely the Former St Andrew's High School in Clydebank, which is being transformed into 126 affordable homes on behalf of West Dunbartonshire Council.

The project is one of four that is currently under construction as part of the organisation's strategic partnership that will see over 400 homes produced from CCG's OSM facility as well as a significant community benefit programme that will deliver jobs, apprenticeships and localised investment.

As a direct result of the Former St Andrew's School project, CCG has committed to providing 5 new jobs, 8 work placements, 5 apprenticeships, curriculum support for schools and the donation of £11,000 to locally-based initiatives.

The Minister was given the opportunity to view the new homes as well as meeting some of CCG's apprentices who are currently based on-site.

Gil Paterson MSP said: "It was good to visit CCG for a host of reasons, a business with a first-class ethos and commitment to apprenticeships is to be welcomed, along with a building system that is producing excellent homes which will make a significant difference to Clydebank and the wider West Dunbartonshire area."

CCG Director, Calum Murray added: "We welcomed the opportunity to showcase our offsite manufacturing capabilities to Mr Paterson which is helping to support the delivery of affordable homes across the region of West Dunbartonshire. The CCG OSM facility has the ability to produce over 1500 homes per year, all designed to have the highest standards of quality and energy performance and we are delighted to be working with West Dunbartonshire Council to deliver more homes for the region over the coming years.

"Providing apprenticeships, training and skills development is a big part of the CCG ethos and we are delighted to be bringing such opportunities to communities like Clydebank as a result of our housebuilding programmes here and across Central Scotland. The boys that were met on site today are playing a big part and they can be very proud of their efforts."
