McLaughlin & Harvey has welcomed a new apprentice to their Stonehaven Flood Protection Scheme as part of a community benefits drive to maximise the economic and social value impact of the project on the local community.
The new apprentice, Kayla, had undertaken an on-site placement from October to December 2019, during which she learnt about site administration, health and safety, and community liaison with a view to enter a career in the construction industry.
Kayla successfully completed her placement and was offered an apprenticeship at the beginning of January 2020. She is now on-site, mentored by Community Liaison Officer Shelia Tolmie, and is completing her NVQ in Business and Administration.
Speaking about her new role, Kayla said: "This has been a great opportunity for me to see what kind of pathway I can take in the construction industry. My work experience helped me decide that this was the right choice for me as I can gain qualifications whilst working. I am excited about the future and learning new skills, this will help me going forward in my career choices. Thank you, McLaughlin & Harvey."
