Kingdom Housing Association Focus On Staff's Road Safety

Construction News Image
Kingdom Housing Association have announced a focus on the safety of their staff, who drive hundreds of thousands of miles every year attending to their more than 5,000 housing stock.

Representatives from Kingdom recently attended the Scottish Road Safety Association (ScORSA) seminar at Perth Racecourse.

The road safety seminar focused on work-related road risk and new changes recently introduced in Scotland under Section 5a of the Road Safety Act (drug driving).

The event was also designed to support organisations with responsibility for the management, implementation, monitoring and delivery of road safety. Speakers from various organisations included Transport Scotland, Police Scotland and RoSPA.

Members had an opportunity to visit exhibition stands from member organisations including Kingdom Group, LOcHER Project, ScotsERVS, Chequered Flag Training and Healthy Working Lives as well as viewing the newly launched website.

Dave Roy, Kingdom's health and safety officer, said: "Due to the varied nature of our work, safe driving is very important to the Association so we attend these events and pass on any important road safety information to our staff.

"The Kingdom Group already has driver risk assessments in place, trackers on our company vehicles along with procedures and safe systems of work in place for our staff who drive on company business. We attend events such as the ScORSA seminar as part of our continual improvement processes and are always keen to share best practice and look for new ideas."

Kingdom is once again supporting this year's 'BRAKE – Road Safety Week' which takes place from 18–24 November, as an opportunity to bring together businesses, individuals and community organisations to focus on the deadly menace of speed. This year's BRAKE theme will raise awareness of the growing concern of speed on our roads.

Mr Roy added: "We are keen to help raise awareness of the importance of responsible driving, with the ultimate goal of reducing road accidents wherever possible. Throughout the campaign we will be handing out road safety leaflets to our drivers and making the pledge to 'Think! Road Safety'."

ScORSA was created to raise awareness of managing Occupational Road Risk and to promote occupational road safety within Scotland through promoting the positive benefits of risk management. ScORSA brings together employers, local authorities, emergency services, safety organisations, professional and trade associations.
