Scottish Letting Day Conference Underway In Edinburgh

Construction News Image
Up to 500 landlords, letting agents and housing professionals and more than 40 exhibitors involved in private rented housing in Scotland will gather in Edinburgh today for the largest conference of its kind as the sector embraces new legislation and standards to continue to provide high-quality homes across the country.

Scottish Letting Day is organised by the Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL), the largest member organisation for the private rented sector in Scotland. It is an opportunity for those working in the industry to learn more about changes to rules and standards, how to adapt to the changing economy and the importance of training and skills.

SAL says that this year will be the largest conference they have ever organised and reflects not only the growth of private renting as a whole but the commitment to high standards the sector is always striving for.

At this year's event, delegates will hear from speakers covering a range of topics including; effective training for staff; improving energy efficiency; understanding the Universal Credit system and gas and electrical safety.

John Blackwood, chief executive of the Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL), said: "I am delighted that this year we see record numbers of people attending the largest private rented sector conference in Scotland and, indeed, the UK.

"Because most landlords and letting agents are small businesses, they are easily affected by even small changes in regulations or standards so conferences like this or membership of a body like SAL are essential for them to stay up to date and continue to provide high quality homes for rent. That might be knowing more about future housing trends, new regulations, updated safety information or new technologies.

"The private rented sector has a massive role to play in helping to solve Scotland's housing crisis by providing a range of flexible, high quality properties across the country. As landlords and letting agents we must ensure we are able to continue to do that in a professional manner than best serves our customers."
