Overnight Road Closures For Bridge Beam Installation

Construction News Image
Transport Scotland has announced three overnight road closures of the A9 north of Perth to allow for bridge beams to be installed at two further overbridges as part of an ongoing dualling project.

Road users are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys with three overnight closures of the A9 north of Perth scheduled from November 27 to 29, 2019, weather permitting.

The A9 will be closed in both directions on each of these nights from 8:30 PM to 6:00 AM, between Luncarty and Dunkeld, as construction works on the A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project reaches another major milestone.

The three overnight closures are required to install precast concrete beams over the existing A9 carriageway to form the new Pitlandie and Coltrannie overbridges.

Gemma Montrose, Project Sponsor for Transport Scotland, said: "Lifting the beams in place on these two new structures represents another major milestone in the project. Local residents and regular users of the A9 will be able to see more clearly the new dual carriageway and infrastructure emerging and taking shape.

"The two new structures - north of Luncarty (Pitlandie) and north of Bankfoot (Coltrannie), will provide access for residents and farmers who live and work adjacent to the A9. These new accesses will allow the existing accesses off the A9 to be closed to help improve safety along this section of the A9 for all road users.

"We would like to thank road users for their continued patience while we deliver these significant improvement works to dual the A9."

To reduce overall disruption, contractor Balfour Beatty intends to make the most of the closures by completing several other tasks while the road is closed to traffic. This will include further works to the structure at the new Stanley/Tullybelton Junction and undertaking preparatory works for the next phase of traffic management at the southern extent of the site.

Signed diversion routes will be in place on approach to the closure area, via the A85 for A9 northbound traffic and via the A923 Dunkeld junction for A9 southbound traffic.

Access to the communities of Luncarty, Bankfoot and Stanley will be maintained via the local road network for the duration of the three overnight closures.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Transport Scotland recognises that the A9 provides a vital link to and from Scotland's Highlands and it is important to minimise disruption where possible.
