A housing development on an empty site in East Lothian has been approved after the Scottish Government Reporter overturned the local council's refusal.

East Lothian Council had previously rejected a proposal from LAR Housing Trust for 26 mid-market rent properties on a site that has reportedly lain empty for more than a decade.

It is understood that the council had rejected the proposal on the grounds that the land was "needed for employment"

However, according to reports, the Scottish Government Reporter ruled that the council had "fallen far short of meeting the demand for affordable housing in recent years and was expecting a further shortfall in the future".

LAR said that it was "delighted" to have been given the green light by East Lothian Planners for the development.
