Large Fife Employer Secures £1.25bn Contract

UK engineering support services company, Babcock has secured a £1.25 billion contract from the UK Ministry of Defence.

The company, which serves as one of the largest employers in Fife, will look to build five Type 31 warships at an average cost of £250 million per ship. Work is expected to start by the end of 2019.

Welcoming the news, Cllr Altany Craik, Convener of Economy, Tourism, Strategic Planning and Transportation at Fife Council said: "This announcement is great news for Babcock, one of our largest employers, and for local people across Fife.

"Babcock's achievements show that Fife has a first-class engineering skills-base, world leading facilities at Rosyth and that investing in the region can reap real business benefits. Its success story sends a strong message to other national and international companies that Fife has a lot to offer.
